This year, our conference will focus on the rising generation of young Jews and the renewal of American education. We recognize that America is suffering an educational crisis. What’s needed now, more than ever, is serious discussion and debate on Jewish strategies to repair, replenish, and revitalize American schools, universities, and institutions that educate and inspire Jewish youth. It is our privilege to honor Jennifer and David Millstone with the inaugural Jewish Parents Forum Award. The Millstones are the visionaries behind Tikvah’s Millstone Scholars Program, a unique opportunity for 7th and 8th graders across the country to explore—in small, in-person seminars—the great ideas and leaders of Jewish and Western civilization and the story of modern Israel. Leaders in business, law, and philanthropy, the Millstones have helped Tikvah pioneer new efforts to engage middle schools students in the richness of their Jewish and American inheritance.
We are also deeply honored that Leon Kass—one of the most profound Jewish thinkers and educators of our age—will accept Tikvah’s highest honor, the Herzl Prize, at this year’s conference. Dr. Kass is Dean of the Faculty at Shalem College, Professor Emeritus in the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago, and Scholar Emeritus at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. A lifelong enthusiast of liberal education, he is the author of Leading a Worthy Life: Finding Meaning in Modern Times (2017), and three commentaries on the Hebrew Bible: The Beginning of Wisdom: Reading Genesis (2006), Founding God’s Nation: Reading Exodus (2021), and together with Hannah Mandelbaum, Reading Ruth: Birth, Redemption, and the Way of Israel (2021).
